Products for Mainteance of Concrete Reinforcing
Sika® FerroGard® 901
Corrosion Inhibiting Admixture
Use
Sika FerroGard 901 is recommended for all steel reinforced concrete or repair mortars and grouts exposed to corrosive environments. Typical uses are:
- Concrete bridges, highways and pavements exposed to de-icing salts
- Concrete marine structures operating in chloride environments.
- Concrete tunnels, infrastructure or retaining walls.
- Concrete in industrial plants where corrosive substances are present.
- Concrete parking structures and decks.
- Concrete piers, piles, caissons and dock structures.
Sika FerroGard 901 specifically provides protection from chloride and carbonation induced corrosion.
Characteristics and Advantages
- Multifunctional inhibitor, active at both anodic and cathodic sites of a corrosion cell.
- High vapour pressure characteristic of inhibitor results in penetration through concrete.
- High affinity for steel enables displacement of chloride ions from metal surfaces.
- Forms a physical, high integrity and absorbed layer on the surface of embedded steel.
- Continuous barrier protects reinforcement from corrosion caused by loss of alkalinity.
- Creates an environment which restricts influence of moisture and oxygen in concrete.
- Material performance is supported by significant test data and track record.
Sika FerroGard 901 offers owners, specifiers, port authorities, transport ministries and engineers a proven technology in corrosion inhibition that is easily added to ready-mix or precast concrete and repair mortars or grouts. This dual action inhibitor dramatically delays the initiation of corrosion and greatly reduces ongoing corrosion activity.
Sika FerroGard 901:
- Extends the service life of concrete structures and reduces maintenance costs.
- Does not contain calcium nitrite; is non-hazardous and is environmentally friendly.
- Does not affect the rheological properties of plastic concrete; no changes in mix design or placement operations are required.
- Does not affect the properties of hardened concrete such as compressive and flexural strengths, permeability, etc.
- Reduces the harmful effects of steel corrosion which cause concrete cracking, staining, spalling and ultimate loss of structural integrity.
- Provides corrosion inhibition in the presence of chlorides, de-icing and marine salts.
- Enhances the durability of repair mortars and grouts in corrosive environments.

Corrosion Inhibitor Impregnation for Reinforced Concrete
Use
Sika FerroGard 903 is recommended for all steel reinforced, prestressed, precast, posttensioned or marine concrete. Applications include:
- Steel reinforced concrete streets, bridges and highways exposed to corrosive environments (de-icing salts, weathering).
- Steel reinforced concrete in or near a marine environment.
- Parking garage decks.
- Piers, piles, and concrete dock structures.
- As part of Sika’s System approach for building and civil engineering structures.
Characteristics and Advantages
- Sika FerroGard 903 offers owners, port authorities, DOTs, and engineers a new technology in corrosion inhibition that can easily be applied to existing concrete surfaces to extend service life of any reinforced concrete structure.
- Protects against the harmful effects of corrosion by penetrating the surface of even the most dense concrete and migrating to the steel to inhibit corrosion.
- Enhances the durability of reinforced concrete.
- Does not require concrete removal.
- Organic in nature and environmentally friendly.
- Does not contain calcium nitrite.
- Easily applied by either spray or roller to all existing reinforced concrete.
- Can be applied on reinforced concrete that already exhibits some corrosion.
- Adds additional benefits when used prior to protective coatings in concrete restoration systems.
- Water-based for easy handling and application.
- Not a vapour barrier; allows vapour diffusion.
- Aminoalcohols based corrosion inhibitors have proven effective in both laboratory and field analysis as part of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP-S-666).
- ANSI/NSF Standard 61 approved for potable water contact (special order only).

Sika FerroGard 903+Sika® Galvashield® XP Product Line
Embedded Galvanic Anodes with 2G Technology TM.
Use
- To mitigate incipient anode formation (halo effect) in patch repair.
- Bridge widening and other structure modifications.
- Slab replacements, expansion joint repairs and other interfaces between new and existing concrete.
- Repair of prestressed and post-tensioned concrete.
- Chloride contaminated or carbonated concrete.
- Repair of structures with epoxy-coated rebar.
Characteristics and Advantages
- Proven technology - Sika Galvashield anodes have an extensive 10+ year track record in the field and have received British Board of Agrément (BBA) approval.
- Type A anode - Alkali-activated to maintain activity of zinc while being noncorrosive to reinforcing steel.
- 2G Technology TM- Provides enhanced current output and protection.
- Cast zinc core - Provides high anode utilization in addition to a secure long-term connection between the zinc and the lead wires.
- Integral steel lead wires - Allows for quick and convenient anode installation.
- Provides dependable steel-to-steel contact with no intermediate materials such as galvanizing (which can corrode over time) that may compromise the long-term electrical connection.BarFitTM design - Grooved edges on Galvashield XP2 and XP4 anodes facilitate the positioning and optimize the contact between the anode and the rebar.
- Economical - Provides localized protection where it is needed the most, at the interface of the repair and the remaining contaminated concrete.
- Versatile - Can be used for both conventionally reinforced and prestressed or posttensioned concrete.
- Low maintenance - Requires no external power source or system monitoring.
- Long lasting - 10 to 20 year service life* reduces the need for future repairs.
*As with all galvanic protection systems, service life and performance is dependent upon a number of factors including reinforcing steel density, concrete conductivity, chloride concentration, humidity and anode spacing.
