The PVC Advantage

Sika's Sarnafil® membranes are available in S and G configurations. Membranes of the ‘’G’’ series are heat-weldable membranes produced with an integral fibreglass mat reinforcement for dimensional stability and for use with the Sarnafil® Adhered System. The Sarnafil® “S” series membranes are heat-weldable membranes also produced with integral polyester reinforcement for high strength but intended for use with Sarnafil® Mechanically-Attached Systems.

Membrane reinforcement: Sika Sarnafil® membranes are produced with an integrated reinforcement for roofing and waterproofing applications. Reinforcement is critical to long term dimensional stability of any single ply membrane

Polymer thickness: While the reinforcement’s role is to provide dimensional stability and mechanical properties, the polymer provides the waterproofing.

Water absorption: Another defining performance property of a roofing membrane is water resistance. When submerged under water at 158°F for one week (in accordance with ASTM Test Method D 570) Sarnafil membranes exhibit only a 3% change in weight.

Fire resistance: Vinyl materials, such as Sarnafil membrane, can self-extinguish and resist  the spread of flames.

Energy savings: Reflective roofing, such as the Sarnafil EnergySmart Roof® membrane, has proven to help building owners reduce their energy consumption but also abate urban heat islands.

Hot-air welded seams and flashings: The Sarnafil® membrane is thermoplastic, so seams and flashings are welded together using Sika Sarnafil’s automatic hot-air welder. When welded together, the sheets of membrane become one monolithic layer of material impervious to water and moisture infiltration.
