Application
Mixing Ratio
A:B = 2:1 by volume.
Product Temperature
Condition product between 18 °C to 32 °C (65 °F to 89°F) before using.
Ambient Air Temperature
Minimum: 10 °C (50 °F) Maximum: 30 °C (85 °F)
Mixing and application attempted at material, ambient and/or substrate temperature conditions less than 18 °C (65 °F) will result in a decrease in product workability and slower cure rates.
Relative Air Humidity
Maximum 85 % (during application and curing).
Dew Point
Substrate must be at least 3 ˚C (5 ˚F) above the Dew Point to reduce the risk of condensation, which may lead to adhesion failure or “blushing” on the floor finish. Be aware that the substrate temperature may be lower than the ambient temperature.
Substrate Temperature
Minimum: 10 °C (50 °F) Maximum: 30 °C (85 °F)
Do not apply while ambient and substrate temperatures are rising, as pinholes may occur. Ensure there is no vapour drive at the time of application. Refer to ASTM D4263, may be used for a visual indication of vapour drive.
Substrate Moisture Content
Moisture content of concrete substrate must be ≤ 4 % by mass (pbw – part by weight) as measured with a Tramex®CME / CMExpert type concrete moisture meter on mechanically prepared surface according to this product data sheet (preparation to ICRI / CSP 3 - 4). If moisture content of concrete substrate exceeds 4 % by mass (pbw – part by weight) as measured with Tramex® CME / CMExpert type concrete moisture meter, use Sikafloor®-1610 or Sikafloor®-81 EpoCem®CA.
ASTM F2170 internal probe testing is not a substitute for measuring substrate moisture content with a Tramex® CME / CMExpert type concrete moisture meter as described above. When relative humidity tests for concrete substrate are conducted per ASTM F2170 for project specific requirements, values must be ≤ 85 %. If values exceed 85 %, according to ASTM F2170, use Sikafloor®-1610 or Sikafloor®-81 EpoCem®CA.
Pot Life
~30 minutes
Curing Time
Touch Dry | Overcoat | Full Cure | Temperature |
~8 hours | ~18 hours | ~7 days | 23 °C (73 °F) |
Curing times will vary according to ambient air and substrate temperatures and relative humidity.
Freshly applied material should be protected from dampness, condensation and water contact for at least 24 hours as newly applied material may develop a ‘blush’ layer under severe conditions (cold or humidity) which can be easily removed with water. Ensure proper drying before overcoating.
Mechanical, chemical and physical properties will be fully achieved at full cure.
Consumption
~1 m2/L at 1 mm thickness (~46 ft2/US gal at 3/64 inch thickness)
Actual coverage rates and material consumption will depend upon porosity and profile of substrates. Test sections are recommended to establish correct coverage.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Concrete - The surface must be clean and sound.
Remove any dust, laitance, grease, oil, dirt, curing agents, impregnations, wax, foreign matter, coatings, and detritus from the surface by appropriate mechanical means, to achieve a profile equivalent to ICRI / CSP 3 - 4 for floors and ICRI / CSP 1 - 3 for walls. The compressive strength of the concrete substrate should be at least 25 MPa (3625 psi) at 28 days and at least 1.5 MPa (218 psi) in tension at the time of application of Sika® Duochem-8107.
Plywood - Fir plywood a minimum of 13 mm (1/2 in) thick is suitable for most applications when securely fastened to a solid substrate. Nail on 150 mm (6 in) centres around perimeter and 300 mm (12 in) centres in the field. Lay out sheets with a 3 mm (1/8 in) space between the sheets. Broom and vacuum plywood surface, spacing joints, and crevasses to remove all traces of dust prior to application of Sika® Duochem-8107.
Steel - Sandblast or grind to white metal. Apply Sika® Duochem-8107 immediately after preparation to prevent rusting.
MIXING
Mixing Ratio - A:B = 2:1 by volume
Neat Resin
Do not hand mix Sikafloor® materials. Mechanically mix only. Mix only that quantity which can be used within its pot life at actual field temperature. Sag resistance will be reduced after pot life has expired.
Maximum applied thickness is 25 mm (1 in) per layer of neat resin; build up in layers where necessary or extend with silica sand.
Pre-mix each component separately to ensure that all solids are evenly distributed, and a consistent colour is achieved throughout each component. Proportion by volume 2 parts of Component A and 1 part of Component B into a clean suitable sized mixing pail. Mix the combined components at low speed (300-450 rpm) for at least three (3) minutes using a drill fitted with an Exomixer® or Jiffy type paddle suited to the volume of the mixing container to minimize air entrapment. Be careful not to introduce any air bubbles while mixing. Make sure the contents are completely mixed (without any streaking) to avoid any weak or partially cured spots. During the mixing operation, scrape down the sides and bottom of the container with a flat or straight edge trowel at least once to ensure complete mixing.
Extended Mortar
Where additional filler is required to produce a patching or repair mortar, oven dried silica sand may be added at a maximum ratio of 3 parts by weight of oven dried silica sand to 1-part mixed neat resin until the desired consistency is achieved. Important: Avoid adding excess silica sand as material will become too dry to provide adequate adhesion.
APPLICATION
To fill cracks and joints, spread Sika® Duochem-8107 using an appropriate spatula or trowel to force material into voids and finish by smoothing it flush with the adjoining surfaces.
On vertical applications when filling larger cracks or holes, the addition of silica sand (to desired consistency) is recommended to aid the trowelling and prevent sag.
For bonding, spread Sika® Duochem-8107 with a notched trowel and apply overlay while material is still tacky.
CLEAN UP
Clean all tools and equipment with Sika® Epoxy Cleaner. Once hardened, product can only be removed mechanically.
