Application
Mixing Ratio
A:B = 2:1 by volume
Product Temperature
Condition product between 18 °C to 30 °C (65 °F to 86 °F) before using
Ambient Air Temperature
Minimum: 10 °C (50 °F) / Maximum: 30 °C (85 °F)
Relative Air Humidity
Maximum: 85 % (during application and curing)
Dew Point
Substrate must be at least 3 °C (5 °F) above the Dew Point to reduce the risk of condensation, which may lead to adhesion failure or "blushing" on the floor finish. Be aware that the substrate temperature may be lower than the ambient temperature.
Substrate Temperature
Minimum: 10 °C (50 °F) / Maximum: 30 °C (85 °F)
Mixing and application attempted at material, ambient and/or substrate temperature conditions less than 18 °C (65 °F) will result in a decrease in product workability and slower cure rates.
Pot Life
~30 minutes at 23 °C (73 °F)
Curing Time
Touch dry | ~7 hours at 23 °C (73 °F) |
Full cure | ~7 days at 23 °C (73 °F) |
Curing times will vary according to air and substrate temperature and relative humidity.
Protect from dampness, condensation and water contact during the initial 24 hour cure period.
Mechanical, chemical and physical properties will be fully achieved at full cure.
Waiting Time / Overcoating
Minimum: ~8 hours at 23 °C (73 °F) / Maximum: ~48 hours at 23 °C (73 °F)
Note: If the Waiting / Overcoating Time has passed, the previous coat must be lightly sanded, to remove all gloss; vacuum cleaning and solvent wiping will be necessary to remove all traces of dust. The surface should be a uniform dullness, with no gloss present after clean-up and before applying the next coat.
Consumption
10 m2/L to 12 m2/L (400 ft2/US gal. to 500 ft2/US gal.) at ~3 to ~4 mil d.f.t. per coat. (one coat required on smooth surfaces).
Actual coverage rates and material consumption will depend upon porosity and profile of substrates. Allowance must be also made for variation in film thickness or number of coats required to achieve complete coverage of surfaces. Test sections are recommended to establish correct coverage.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
New Sikafloor® or Sikagard® Surfaces: Sikafloor® Duochem-5206 must be applied within the critical recoat window following the last application of the Sikafloor® or Sikagard® resin. If the recoat window is exceeded, the existing Sikafloor® or Sikagard® surface must be sanded (abraded) to remove any sheen or gloss. The prepared surface must then be vacuumed and wiped clean with a solvent-moistened rag to remove all traces of dust, dirt or preparation residue prior to application of the Sikafloor® Duochem-5206 top coat.
Previously Coated Surfaces: Existing coated surfaces must be intact and tightly bonded to the substrate. Completely remove all traces of waxes or sealers, dust, dirt, oil, grease or other contaminates that may inhibit bonding. Hard or glossy surfaces must be sanded (abraded) to remove any sheen or gloss. The prepared surface must then be vacuumed and wiped clean with a solvent-moistened rag to remove all traces of dust, dirt or preparation residue prior to application of the Sikafloor® Duochem-5206 top coat. IMPORTANT: Sika Canada strongly recommends that a trial application be carried out to determine compatibility and acceptable performance of Sikafloor® Duochem-5206 with the existing surface, prior to general top coat works being undertaken. Contact Sika Canada for recommendations.
MIXING
Mix Ratio: A:B 2:1 by volume
Do not hand mix Sikafloor® materials. Mechanical mix only.
Pre-mix each component separately to ensure that any settled material is broken up and all solids are evenly distributed. Uniform clarity and consistencies must be achieved within each component. Empty component B in the correct mix ratio to component A. Mix the combined components for at least three (3) minutes, using a low-speed drill (300 - 450 rpm) to minimize entrapping air. Use an Exomixer® or Jiffy type mixing paddle (recommended model) suited to the volume of the mixing container. To minimize entrapping air, ensure mixing paddle is kept in the material. During the mixing operation, scrape down the sides and bottom of the container with a flat or straight edge trowel at least once, to ensure complete mixing. When completely mixed, Sikafloor® Duochem-5206 should be uniform in in clarity and consistency before use. Mix only that quantity which can be used within its pot life.
IMPORTANT: It is important to keep mixed product fully and mechanically agitated. Any breaks in application should be followed by re-mixing of the material to again produce a uniform consistency, before proceeding with the application.
APPLICATION
General Requirements: It is extremely important to thoroughly clean the substrate before application of Sikafloor® Duochem-5206. Dust particles, dirt, steel shot and other contaminates will be permanently sealed into the cured film appearing as surface defects. Roller sleeves should be low nap, lint-free and of high quality to minimize the appearance and frequency of entrapped roller fibres.
Sikafloor® Duochem-5206 may be applied using a high quality, short nap roller (lint-free), a natural bristled brush, nonmarking squeegee or flexible steel trowel followed by backrolling. Apply the mixed resin in a uniform, thin film avoiding ponding or puddling, as thick areas will appear as isolated patches of smooth non-textured, high gloss coating.
CLEAN UP
Clean all tools and equipment with Sika® Epoxy Cleaner. Once hardened, product can only be removed mechanically.
