SikaTard®-440

HYDRATION CONTROLLING ADMIXTURE

SikaTard®-440 is a new hydration controlling admixture to control the hydration of cement. The use of SikaTard®-440 allows the concrete producer to stabilize concrete mixes for long periods without negatively affecting concrete durability.

Usage

Typical Applications:
  • Transport freshly batched ready-mix concrete for long distances
  • For better control of concrete set time in hot and cold weather concreting applications
  • Large concrete pours; to help prevent cold joints
  • Pumping long distances
  • Low water/cement ratio concrete, such as high strength or pervious concrete
 
  • High early strength concrete for improvement of workable life without a detrimental effect on early mechanical properties
  • Allows returned concrete to be re-used.
  • When used in wash water application, prevents concrete producers from having to clean the truck at the end of day’s work and saves water
  • Stabilize shotcrete mixes
  • Whenever controlled set time or cement hydration is required

Shelf Life

1 year when stored in dry warehouse conditions at tempertures ranging between +4 °C and +27 °C (40 °F and 80 °F).

Storage Conditions

Store at temperatures above +5 °C (40 °F). If frozen, thaw and agitate thoroughly to return to normal state. Protect from direct sunlight.

Mixing

Introduce SikaTard®-440at a suitable time during the mixing process of concrete. Preliminary trials on site should be conducted to determine the required dosage rates. To optimize the stabilizing effect, after the addition of SikaTard®-440, Sika recommends that the combined materials be mixed for 80-100 revolutions, either in the concrete mixer or in the Ready-Mix truck.


Combination with other admixtures: SikaTard®-440 can be used in conjunction with all Sigunit® accelerators. SikaTard®-440 is also compatible with all other Sika® admixtures.
Consumption

Recommended Dosage

Dosage rates will vary according to materials used, ambient conditions and the requirements of a specific project.

For normal applications, depending on the retardation required, the dosage of SikaTard®-440 will vary from 130-520 mL/100 kg (2–8 fl.oz. per 100 lb) of cementitious mass. For stabilization for longer periods, the dosage can be increased up to 3100 mL/100 kg (48 fl.oz. per 100 lb) of cementitious mass. Concrete trial mixes must be conducted to determine the optimum dose. For more information about the use of this product, please contact your Sika Canada Technical Sales Representative.
