Sika® Stabilizer-412 MBF

LIQUID-BASED VISCOSITY MODIFYING ADMIXTURE FOR HYRAULIC MINE BACKFILL 

Sika® Stabilizer-412 MBF is a ready-to-use viscosity modifying liquid admixture used by the mining industry to improve the performance of hydraulic fills in underground backfill operations. Sika® Stabilizer-412 MBF improves the homogeneity, stability and segregation resistance of hydraulic fill mixes. The product is suitable for mixes containing varying proportions of tailings and/or sands that may be manufactured and/or poorly graded.

Usage

Sika® Stabilizer-412 MBF can be used in mining to:
• Improve resistance to segregation
• Improve stability of the mix during transportation
• Reduce blockages of pipelines
• Enhance workability of the hydraulic fill, allowing longer transportation along pipelines
• Reduce drainage time and reduce filling cycles
• Reduce the impact of water content fluctuations in the aggregates
• Improve cleaning of pipelines

Storage Conditions

This product must be stored in original, unopened and undamaged packaging in dry conditions at temperatures between 5 and 27 ºC (40 and 80 ºF). Protect from frost and direct sunlight. Store above 5 °C (40 °F). If frozen, thaw and agitate thoroughly to return to normal state. Protect from direct sunlight

Recommended Dosage

The dosage to be used should be estimated by preliminary laboratory testing. The recommended dosage will usually be between 1 and 6% by weight of the total cementitious content. When the difference of the particle size distribution between the sands and/or tailing is larger, higher dosages might be needed. In case of overdosing, stiffness can occur. It is suggested than an automated liquid admixture dispensing system adapted to the hydraulic backfill mixing method be used. Start plant trials with a lower dosage than that estimated in the laboratory. If the performance and the system results are satisfactory, continue with this dosage. If performance is unsatisfactory, gradually increase the dosage while continuously monitoring the system until the desired performance is achieved. Do not use a higher dosage than the recommended without preliminary testing.
