SURFACE CONDITIONS

All surfaces must have a temperature between 13 °C (55 °F) and 32 °C (90 °F). The surfaces must be clean and free of dust, soap residue buildup (cleaner), oil, grease, wax, and any other deleterious substances or conditions that could impair, reduce, or inhibit the adhesion or performance of the product.

Before applying, perform a test by applying a few drops of water to the grout joint to confirm whether a sealant has been used. If the water beads up, a sealant has been used and must be removed before application. It is recommended to test on a small area to ensure the desired result.

SikaTile®-890 Revive (CA) is sold in a ready-to-use bottle. Shake well before use. If more than one bottle of the same coluor needs to be used, mix all the bottles in a large container to ensure colour uniformity. Pour a small amount into a container or a small pot.

Dip a small brush or a sponge into the dye and apply a layer onto the grout using a back-and-forth motion. Thin, even layers should be applied, taking care to prevent the dye from spreading onto the tiles. Thin, even coats should be applied, limiting the amount of colourant that gets on the tile. Allow the grout colourant to dry at least 20 minutes, but not more than 30 minutes (time will vary depending on ambient temperature). After SikaTile®-890 Revive (CA) has dried on the joint, dampen the area with water and let stand 5 minutes before removing excess grout colourant from the surface of the tile using a white nylon scrub pad. The stain should be easily removed from the tile but bonded permanently to the grout joint. If stain is easily removed from the grout joint, allow longer curing time. It is recommended to begin by applying only 0.1 m² to 0.2 m² (1 ft² to 2 ft²) at a time to get a feel for the colourant.

Note: From experience the 1st coat will not completely hide the colour of the existing grout or blotchy appearance. Therefore, do not attempt to put more colourants at this stage. The 2nd coat should provide the desired results. 

Generally, 2 coats are sufficient to colour a grout joint. However, if going from a dark to a lighter colour, an additional coat of SikaTile®-890 Revive (CA) may be necessary. Follow the above instructions but allow a minimum of 2 hours drying time between coats. After finishing the application of SikaTile®-890 Revive (CA), the surface is ready for traffic in 24 hours. Keep the area dry for at least 48 hours.

Curing and Protection

Normal pedestrian traffic can be permitted after 24 hours, and heavy commercial traffic after only 72 hours. Allow up to 72 hours drying time for areas exposed to moisture. Avoid directly rubbing the joints for 21 days to allow the grout stain to reach its maximum durability.

Clean applicator tools with water after each use. Dispose of empty bottles according to provincial and local regulations.

Note: The unused portion of SikaTile®-890 Revive (CA) should be capped and stored in a cool dry place.
