King® HLM-500

HLM-500 mortar is a pre-blended, pre-packaged mortar specifically designed for use with clay, concrete and stone masonry units, within the context of a historic preservation project or new sustainable construction project (LEED). HLM-500 mortar is a blend of natural hydraulic lime, hydrated lime and masonry sand. It is available in off-white, but can also be blended with a variety of colouring agents.

Usage

  • Ideal for use in laying clay, concrete and stone masonry units in repair of historic buildings or monuments
  • Ideal for use in laying clay, concrete and stone masonry units in the context of a new sustainable construction (LEED)
  • Can be applied indoors and outdoors
  • Can be used as a repointing mortar
  • The substrate and mortar temperature should be between 5 °C (40 °F) and 38 °C (100 °F) and maintained in this range for 72 hours after mortar application
  • Never add water to regain lost workability. Just mix again.
  • Never use on-site admixtures to modify setting time, workability, or any other properties of plastic or hardened mortar

Packaging

HLM-500 mortar is normally packaged in 30 kg (66 lb.) triple-lined bags and poly wrapped on wooden pallets. All KING products can be custom packaged to suit specific job requirements.

Walls Built Between 1940 and 1975

Walls built between 1940 and 1975 can be constructed from a steel structure with which we simply just attach a masonry facade. These walls are often constructed using a mortar made of masonry cement or mortars containing pure lime and Portland cement.

Foundation Walls

Since the compressive strengths that we are looking for are usually high, we recommend the use of a mortar generally assigned to the laying of masonry elements as a repointing mortar.

Retaining Walls

In addition to usually being exposed to de-icing salts, retaining walls, just like chimneys and parapets, are often exposed to elements such as wind and rain. Furthermore, they are exposed to a large number for freeze-thaw cycles without much protection.
