WHAT'S THE SECRET OF A GOOD PAINT?

The secret of a good paint lies in its binder. It's important to distinguish between mineral and organic binders. The binder used in organic paints (latex, acrylic, alkyd, etc.) will adhere to the surface of the substrate via a bonding system and will not allow the substrate to breathe optimally, whereas mineral paint uses potassium silicate, a mineral binder that reacts chemically with the mineral substrate (plaster, stone, concrete, clay, etc.) to create a durable, insoluble bond, while allowing the substrate to breathe properly. The paints have a creamy, opaque and more concentrated consistency.

Sika offers several paints in order to meet the specific requirements of each project:

SikaWall®-485 MP can be applied directly to absorbent mineral surfaces. For repaired substrates, as well as substrates with minor textural differences or hairline cracks, the use of SikaWall®-485 MP Texture as a base coat will help fill voids and even out textural differences. In the event of larger cracks or major textural differences, it is also possible to even out imperfections by applying SikaWall®-485 MP Primer Plus. Finally, if existing organic paints on the substrate cannot be removed, SikaWall®-485 MP Primer can be applied as a primer prior to the application of SikaWall®-485 MP paint.
