Store protected in dry conditions at temperatures between 5 °C to 30 °C. Do not expose to direct sunlight and heat. Close the opened packaging well. If there is paint left over, the remaining amount should be transferred into smaller containers to keep the air content as low as possible.  Protect from freezing. If frozen, do not use and discard the product.

SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution serves as a diluent for the SikaWall®-485 potassium silicate-based coatings system. SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution can also be used alone on highly absorbent mineral substrates as a primer/pre-treatment to control the absorption rate before the application of a product from the SikaWall®-485 potassium silicate-based paint system.

The product will be dry to the touch within 1 to 3 hours.  After application the surface must be protected from strong winds and sun until the product is dry (3-6 hours), it must also be protected from rain until the end of the cure which lasts between 12 to 36 hours depending on temperature and humidity. 

It is necessary to calculate a minimum of twelve (12) hours between each coat when SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution is used as a primer/pre-treatment or when it’s used as a diluent for the following products:

• SikaWall®-485 MP
• SikaWall®-485 MP Texture
• SikaWall®-485 Primer
• SikaWall®-485 Primer Plus

Approximately 55 m² to 74 m² (590 ft² to 800 ft²) per 3.78 L (1 US gal) per coat of SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution when applied as a primer for a pre-treatment. The consumption indicated is a reference value on a smooth surface. Exact values can only be determined by painting test areas on the structure to be coated using the same tools and techniques that will be used for the final application.

When SikaWall®-485 MP dilution is use has a primer for a pre-treatment

• Brush: Use a natural bristle or nylon / polyester 
• Roller: Use a 13 mm to 19 mm (½ in to ¾ in) nap synthetic roller cover 
• Sprayer: Use an Airless Paint Sprayer
• Low Pressure Spray

When SikaWall®-485 MP dilution is used as a primer for a dilution for the SikaWall®-485 potassium silicate-based paint and base coat/primers 

• Brush: Use a natural bristle or nylon / polyester 
• Roller: Use a 13 mm to 19 mm ( ½ into ¾ in) nap synthetic roller cover 
• Sprayer: Use an Airless Paint Sprayer (Except for SikaWall®-485 Primer Plus and SikaWall®-485 MP Texture)

For spray applications, contact spray equipment specialists to determine suitable equipment and for application advice.  If the product is applied with an Airless sprayer, it is recommended to back roll the surface gradually during the application.

It is recommended to apply the basecoat with a brush, roller, to allow complete coverage on the surface.

Mix SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution to ensure uniformity using a slow speed (300 - 450 rpm) drill fitted  with  a  Jiffy-style  paddle. Mix for about three (3) to five (5) minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. 

If it is planned to use SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution as a diluent with one of our SikaWall®-485 potassium silicate-based paint, mix each product separately using a drill firstly. Then, add SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution and stir all materials together.

Do not exceed a recommended ratio of 10 % which equivalent to: 

• 1.5 L (0.4 US gal) of SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution for 15.14 L (4 US gal) of SikaWall®-485 MP 

You always have accurately measured materials.  Mix for about three (3) to five (5) minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. Stirred regularly in its container during application to avoid segregation of constituents.

AS A PRE-TREATMENT

• 1st  coat (base coat): SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution undiluted.

TWO LAYER SYSTEM 

• 1st coat (base coat): Mix SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution to a maximum of 10 % (1.5 L (0.4 US gal) / 15.14 L (4 US gal)) with SikaWall®-485 MP. Allow to dry 12 hours or overnight before recoating. 
•  2nd  coat (topcoat): Apply SikaWall®-485 MP without dilution. 

THREE-LAYER SYSTEM 

• 1st coat (basecoat):  Mix SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution to a maximum of 10 % (1.5 L (0.4 US gal) / 15.14 L (4 US gal)) with SikaWall®-485 MP, SikaWall®-485 MP Texture, SikaWall®-485 Primer or SikaWall®-485 Primer Plus. 
• 2nd coat (intermediate coat): Mix SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution to a maximum of 10 % (1.5 L (0.4 US gal) / 15.14 L (4 US gal)) with SikaWall®-485 MP. 
• 3rd coat (topcoat): Apply SikaWall®-485 MP without dilution.

It is important to work ‘’wet-on-wet’’ maintaining a wet edge. Work corner to corner or use an architectural feature as a starting and stopping point. 

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Always carry out an application test in an inconspicuous to verify substrate conditions and to confirm application method, consumption rate and coverage. Best practice suggests that the selected area is acceptable to all parties involved and that it is representative of the area to be eventually pre-treated with SikaWall®-485 MP Dilution as a base coat and/or painted.

Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Once dried/cured, material can only be removed mechanically.
