Concrete is a long-lasting, dependable and affordable construction material which is adaptable to many designs. However, concrete production requires cement and this raw material is associated for nearly 8% of global CO2 emissions  As engineers continue to push the limits of this versatile construction material, in most cases more cement is required to achieve the required mechanical properties and CO2 emissions consequently increase. Sika is invested towards providing experts with various solutions to limit their carbon footprints. The topics discussed in this presentation revolved around using methods to recycle existing concrete structures into new mix-designs, formulating with cement reducing admixtures and thinking outside the box with UHPC.
